My Story
Hello, my name is Elisa Otter.
I grew up in central Vermont, spending my time playing sports, exploring trails, and learning through hands-on experiences outdoors. That curiosity eventually led me into education, where I spent 10 years teaching kindergarten through 2nd grade and running a K–5 afterschool program. Teaching gave me a deep understanding of how people learn. I learned how to break skills into clear steps, build confidence, and adapt my approach to each individual learner.
I discovered mountain biking in college, and it quickly became a passion. It has taught me that riding is about much more than speed—it’s about setting goals, overcoming challenges, and developing physical and mental wellbeing. That same mindset led me into bike mechanics, where I spent 5 years working in a bike shop developing strong mechanical skills and helping riders better understand their bikes.
Today, Otter Bike Works brings together my background in teaching, riding, and mechanics to help people build skills, confidence, and a stronger connection to biking.
My Approach
I combine my background in professional racing, bike mechanics, and education to create a supportive and effective learning experience.
I break skills down into simple, manageable steps
I tailor each lesson to the individual rider
I focus on building confidence just as much as technique
I meet riders where they are—beginner to intermediate
My goal is to help you not only improve your riding, but also feel more confident, independent, and excited every time you get on your bike.
